# How do I import my existing contacts?

Export your current CRM to CSV, then use Contacts → Import to upload it. The importer maps standard fields automatically and lets you map insurance-specific fields — carrier, plan, effective date, policy number — to custom fields so nothing is lost.

## Import a CSV

1. Export your contacts from your old system as a CSV file.
2. Go to Contacts → Import and upload the file.
3. Review the automatic field mapping and map any unmatched columns to custom fields.
4. Choose whether to tag the batch (for example, imported-2026-08) so you can filter it later.
5. Run the import and review the summary for skipped or duplicate rows.

## Avoiding duplicates

Imports de-duplicate on email address first and phone number second. If a matching contact exists, the importer updates the existing record instead of creating a second one.

### Can I import policies and commissions too?

Yes. Policies import as a separate file linked by contact email or policy number, and historical commission statements can be uploaded in Commissions → Statements.
