# Embedded CRM Chatbot vs External MCP Agent: Why the Sidebar Bot Is Already Obsolete

<p>The 2024 CRM playbook was: bolt a chatbot to the sidebar, label it AI, ship. The 2026 reality is the sidebar bot is the worst of both worlds — limited like a chatbot, siloed like an app.</p>

<p>Sidebar bots cost the CRM vendor every token. They limit features to control cost. MCP shifts the inference bill to you (you pay Anthropic / OpenAI directly), which means CRM vendors can expose unlimited capability without burning through margin. You get more — they make their money on the platform, not the inference.</p>

<h2>Where Sidebar Still Helps</h2>
<p>Quick in-app suggestions and inline form fills. We do those too. But the heavy work belongs in your real chat client, talking to the CRM through MCP.</p>
